Building in Guanacaste

Homes, buildings and hospitality projects designed for dry heat, strong sun and life near the ocean.

Guanacaste has a climate of its own within Costa Rica: a long, very sunny dry season, and a rainy season when the water comes down hard. Much of what gets built here is near the coast, where wind and salt air also matter.

At Grupo Trejos we design and build with those conditions on our side. The same team stays with the project from the first idea to handover, so what is decided in design is what gets built on site.

What building in Guanacaste asks for

  • Shade

We place rooms and openings according to the sun’s path, with deep eaves and covered terraces that shade the living areas.

  • Breeze

We design for cross-ventilation. A well-ventilated home relies less on air conditioning.

  • Rain

Roofs, slopes and drainage are planned for rainy-season downpours, not only for the dry months.

  • Near the ocean

Near the coast we choose materials and finishes that stand up to sun, humidity and salt air.

  • The site

We study the topography and the soil before designing. They determine the foundations and the best way to place the building on the lot.

What we build

We design and build homes, apartment buildings, and commercial and hospitality projects. In Guanacaste, many are residential and tourism projects near the coast.
